Open Lecture Series
As part of the City Science for Transformative Urban Futures Honors Program, Lecture #5 addresses a crucial topic for the governance of urban transformations: Data, Government, and AI: Challenges and Risks. The session, scheduled from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., features Giovanni Allegretti (University of Coimbra), with discussants Michelangelo Secchi and Grazia Concilio (DAStU, Politecnico di Milano).
The lecture offers a critical reflection on the growing role of data and artificial intelligence in public decision-making processes, examining risks, opportunities, and democratic implications. Drawing on international experiences, Allegretti explores the relationship between technological innovation, participation, and territorial governance, highlighting how data can enable—but also limit—processes of knowledge co-production.
As part of the Honours program, the lecture contributes to fostering an informed and critical understanding of the transformations underway, highlighting the need to integrate digital tools, participatory practices, and public accountability in the development of more inclusive and transparent urban policies.
