AY 2026–2027, 2nd Semester, February-June 2027
Academic Year 2026–2027
Submission deadline: 30th April 2026
Since 2017
Since 2017, the “Contemporary Landscape Theory and Practice” Visiting Professorship Programme has aimed to enrich the teaching community of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at Politecnico di Milano and the School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Construction Engineering by welcoming a foreign scholar for a semester-long teaching term.
The present call for applications aims to select a Visiting Professor who will be in charge of teaching one full course at the School during the Academic Year 2026–2027, conducting an autonomous research program at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, and participating in seminars and academic events.
The Course
The Visiting Professor will be responsible for teaching the course Contemporary Landscape Theory and Practice, offered as an elective in the Master’s Degree Programme in Landscape Architecture – Land Landscape Heritage. The course is worth 8 ECTS credits and comprises two integrated modules: Contemporary Issues in Landscape Design (4 ECTS) and Urbanism (4 ECTS).
It consists of 6 hours of in-person teaching per week. Teaching activities include lectures, workshops, and conferences, totalling approximately 80 hours.
The course will be taught in English at the Politecnico di Milano’s Piacenza Campus. It is scheduled for the spring semester (mid-February to early June 2027). In addition to teaching, final examinations will be scheduled for two dates in June–July 2027 and one in September 2027. Other exam dates might be needed if not all students sit the exams in the summer of 2027.
The course will focus on the critical observation of innovative trajectories in landscape architecture. The candidate is asked to develop a teaching programme that integrates theory and practice, specifically focusing on the relationship between the transformation of contemporary cities and territories and the implications for landscape design. Proposals with a strong, innovative, and experimental character will be highly appreciated, given the international profile of the Master’s Degree Programme and its student body.
Fee
The course is remunerated with a sum of €12,000 gross, including all expenses such as travel and accommodation (for taxes paid in Italy, please note that the average income tax rate is approximately 46%; other arrangements may be considered).
The School
The School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Construction Engineering of Politecnico di Milano boasts a well-established tradition that, since 1865, has combined architectural studies with engineering, following an educational model that has gained significant recognition both in Italy and abroad.
The School builds upon and renews the experiences of the Milanese polytechnic tradition, drawing on the rich heritage of the Masters who studied and taught at the Politecnico, combining contributions from the humanities and arts with those of the exact sciences and technologies. In this way, the School combines the solid Milanese and Lombard tradition with the most innovative international experiences.
The School ranks among the top institutions in international subject rankings. Over time, its faculty has included prominent figures in architectural culture, urban planning, and construction engineering; among its graduates are leading designers active in Italy and internationally.
