Cinematographic Structures. An engineering view

In cinemas, the role of solutions for large-span spaces (balconies, tribunes, hall vaults and proscenium beams) can be read by considering structural typologies and characterising building materials based on a consistent study of available literature in the broad area of large-span spaces realised for audio-visual and other purposes. This seminar aims to define the structural solutions adopted in movie theatres, focusing on the “golden age” of the Italian School of Engineering, giving a tool for identifying and understanding the relevant built heritage they represent, allowing a proper evaluation of their future uses.
